All calories are not the same. They may be the same in a test lab, but they are not the same in a human body.
A recent blog post by Dr. Mark Hyman talks at length about this - 750 calories of Coca Cola versus 750 calories of broccoli !
In addition, the high fructose sugar in cola's will cause your sugar level and insulin to spike, increasing belly fat retention and dropping your HDL. In contrast the high fiber, low sugar carbohydrates in broccoli will not lead to sugar or insulin spikes.
Fiber will fill up your body whereas the soda will leave soon. The protein is nutritious. The minerals in vitamins in broccoli are natural, anything in a soda, like coke, will be artificial.
